How serious is a DMCA takedown?
It ranges from one delisted URL to a fully deindexed site. In our July 2026 scan of 54,902 registered Vietnamese e-commerce domains, at least 57 carried an active DMCA removal notice on Google — and 4 of them had lost their entire Google index. If the removed URL is your root domain or a money page, organic revenue stops until it is restored.
What happens when you get a DMCA notice on Google Search?
Google delists the reported URLs and shows a legal notice at the bottom of results, linking to the complaint on Lumen Database. Google often does not email the site owner unless Search Console is set up — many owners only notice when traffic drops.
How long does a DMCA takedown last?
Indefinitely, until it is successfully challenged. Removed URLs do not come back on their own. A valid §512(g) counter-notice is the standard path: the platform baseline is usually 10–14 business days if you file yourself.
Can I recover a root domain that was removed from Google?
Yes. Root-domain (homepage) removals are the highest-severity case we handle — the recovery path is the same counter-notice process, but the dossier has to be airtight because the stakes and scrutiny are higher. We prioritize root-domain cases for that reason.
What should I do after filing a DMCA counter notice?
Monitor Search Console and the site: query for the affected URLs, keep evidence of ownership ready, and avoid re-publishing disputed content while the window runs. If nothing changes after the statutory window, the filing likely had a defect — that is the most common reason self-filed counter-notices fail.
